MULTI-FUNCTION INDICATOR / PILOT LIGHT
Ultiscad's multi-function indicator / pilot light is designed as a solution to numerous needs in control panel indication and operator interface. It is a single-model product, with several user adjustable settings via DIP switches, to meet different application requirement. It reduces the quantity of indicators required on a control panel and facilitates noticing of abnormal equipment conditions because operators have fewer indicators to observe and anomalies are signaled with alternating or flashing lights (depending on user selected settings), drawing attention while giving precise and reliable visual notification.

| TYPICAL APPLICATIONS: | |
MFI is an innovative multi-function and multi-color indicator light for industrial control panels with
numerous applications in switchgears, motor controllers, panelboards, mimic panels, chargers, UPS and redundancy systems, etc. Depending on desired application and DIP settings, MFI input terminals are logically monitored for presence or absence of voltage (48V-125V AC/DC) to indicate a light color, or lighting pattern. Engineers and control systems designers, having studied MFI user manual can apply it to their designs based on possible indication options within the scope of its capabilities. Typical application of MFI are listed below, and further details are available in application notes and guides. |
| 1. | OPEN CIRCUIT INDICATION. |
MFI-3 can be used to indicate an open circuit fault resulting from wire disconnection, broken fuse, etc. It is better, safer and more convenient for an open circuit fault to be indicated with a light color, rather than being represented by a light turned off, to distinguish it from a burnt-out bulb, without needing a push-to-test. Four settings options are available including the following two: 1. Light is off in normal condition and red during open circuit fault (not recommended). 2. Light is white in normal condition and red during open circuit fault. This is recommended because it distinguishes between an open circuit fault and a burnt-out bulb.
| 2. | BREAKER STATUS INDICATION (SWITCHGEARS, MOTOR CONTROLLERS, etc). |
In this application, one unit of MFI can function like three separate 2-wire indicators of breaker status. Typical usage includes: 1. Open, Closed and Maintenance Mode. 2. Open, Closed and Tripped/Locked Out. Option 2 usually involves the use of NAC/NAT features of control switches to distinguish between an OPEN (breaker opened manually by use of control switch) and a TRIPPED (breaker tripped by a relay or locked out). Over seven setting options are available based on user choice as shown in application notes and guides.
| 3. | LOCKOUT RELAY STATUS INDICATION. |
An important application of MFI is in lockout relays (LOR) status indication. Over six setting options are available with a recommended setting included in the application notes / guides. MFI uses its open circuit indication feature, to signal a red light when the LOR or trip circuit is faulty. One unit of MFI functions like three separate 2-wire indicators of healthy, tripped and fault conditions. In the recommended setting, MFI indicates a steady / continuous white light when LOR is closed and the trip circuit is healthy. When LOR trips, MFI verifies the health of the trip circuit with a white light, and every one second, it goes into a test mode to indicate a red light for one second. This shows its ability to indicate a red light when LOR or trip circuit fault occurs. The result is white and red alternating lights every second, signaling a tripped state. In this setting, MFI indicates a steady / continuous red light during a trip circuit or LOR fault, whether in a closed or tripped state. Settings are also available (see application notes / guides) for most retrofits, where the users prefer the indicating pattern they are familiar with, especially LOR health-only indication in closed or tripped state.
| 4. |
UPS & REDUNDANCY SYSTEMS STATUS INDICATION.
one unit of MFI can be used to monitor outputs of 2 sources connected as a redundancy / backup system with a color such as green or white showing normal operation, while amber and red respectively show outage of one or both sources. |
